about our work

Welcome! I’m glad you’re here.

Committing to psychotherapy is a major undertaking and many people do not know what to expect. I would like to take some of the mystery out of the process and tell you about the guiding principles that will be the foundation of our work together.

1

INTEGRATED CARE

Mental health is inextricably linked to physical health. For that reason, with your consent and written permission, I will coordinate and communicate with other members of your care team. Typically, I will write your PCP or PCM after your first session so they are aware of our work and have all of my contact information. Again, I only do this with your written consent. I will consult with them around critical issues and work to ensure that you have an informed group of professionals working together on your behalf.

2

CLEAR COMMUNICATION

I will always communicate with you clearly and directly. I don’t speak in metaphors or code. If you are engaged in behaviors/activities that are unhealthy or do not serve your stated goals, I will tell you that. Conversely, if you are doing things that further your goals, I will tell you that and encourage you to do more. I am not someone who listens silently; but rather will respond, react and try to help clarify important aspects of your narrative.

3

CULTURAL COMPETENCY

I place a priority on providing care that is culturally competent and sensitive. I recognize and respect differing races, ethnicities, cultures, faiths, and sexual orientations/expressions and work to create a safe and productive space for our work together. I am always striving to expand my cultural competency and seek out continuing education, professional literature, and consultation with colleagues to ensure cultural competency and fluency.

4

COLLABORATIVE GOAL SETTING

I will work with you to establish goals for our work together and make recommendations to you about how to best prioritize them. I very often will give you homework to do between sessions. This homework can be something I want you to write, tabulate, read, watch on TV or practice. In my experience, this helps people build new skills and gain greater confidence most quickly.

5

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

I am always working to strengthen, improve and expand my skill set in order to offer you the highest quality services. I enroll in various continuing education courses each year as part of my commitment to continuous improvement and best practices. I will ask for your feedback and will always take it to heart. My goal is to help you get to where you want to be and enable you to live your best life.
